I am excited an inspired by the generosity of this congregation that I want to issue a challenge to Port Neches community to do some wish granting to local teachers. Does the community of Port Neches accept the challenge?
I have a huge opportunity that will bless the teachers in Port Neches. This idea has the potential to touch many lives and have a trickle-down effect that could offer great things for many kids and their families. Teacher Amazon Gifting. Sounds great right? Keep reading to see how you can help.
I’m sure by now you have seen these Amazon wish lists that teachers are posting to Facebook. Teachers are using this to help meet the needs of their classroom. They go on Amazon and make a wish list of items they need for their classroom then post it on Facebook to see if anyone wants to “help a teacher out”. Well, on July 1, 2019 a lady in Tyler County took it a step further. She created a Facebook page called Teacher Amazon Gifting. Teachers can post their wish lists in that group with hopes of meeting their classroom needs. It has turned into a huge gift giving extravaganza. In just a little over 3 weeks the group has 34,000+ members and growing. The creator of the group said, “it is a place for teachers to support other teachers”.
Our church, First United Methodist Church Port Neches, had a fundraiser and collected over $1900 to bless local teachers. We found wishlists of people in our area and bought stuff off of their wishlist until the money ran out. Today I want to challenge the community to bring it the next level.
**Businesses and people of Port Neches here is what you can do—On the church's Facebook page, First United Methodist Church Port Neches (click the name and it will take you there) there is a post pinned to the top of the newsfeed. In the comment section of that post there are wishlists posted of local teachers (PNGISD or residents of Port Neches) click on one and Amazon will walk you through the rest and the blessings will abound. Make sure to put on the gift receipt who it is from (unless you want to remain anonymous).
**Teachers here is what you do—post your wishlists on the church's Facebook Page post in the comments with your school and what grade you teach. When you are gifted please take a picture and post it under your comments. It is good for the community to see the support of their teachers and students (and not to mention good advertisement for businesses)
That is it…below you will find links to the Facebook pages and videos explaining what all of this is about. Happy gifting and I hope we all have a great new school year.
